Since opening in 2017, the American Writers Museum has thrived in our mission to celebrate American writers and their impact on our history, culture, and daily lives. In 2022, we celebrated our fifth anniversary with the inaugural American Writers Festival, launching our largest exhibit and education initiative to date, and expanding our youth education programs to both in person and online. Please consider making a year end donation to the AWM to help sustain our mission and growth beyond 2022. This year, a foundation donor is matching all year-end gifts, doubling your impact!

American Writers Festival

Coinciding with the museum’s fifth anniversary, we hosted the inaugural American Writers Festival, celebrating many of the country’s most impactful authors. The free event featured more than 75 beloved contemporary authors, artists, and playwrights. With your support, we can continue to bring more authors, books, and fun opportunities like this to celebrate American writing together.

Youth Education

With online exhibits and grade-specific curricula, the AWM offers more opportunities than ever before to interact with the Museum’s exhibits. During the 2021-2022 school year, we’ve served over 4,500 students in person and over 16,000 online. In the coming years, the museum will expand its in person and online educational offerings and increase the number of students reached.

Dark Testament: A Century of Black Writers on Justice

In September 2022, we launched our special exhibit Dark Testament: A Century of Black Writers on Justice, honoring the significant contributions of Black writers to American literature and history. Featuring original artwork, augmented reality and other interactive elements that enliven and enrich the experience, Dark Testament brings the work of writers past and present to life in new and exciting ways.
