typewriters on the Story of the Day exhibit table at the American Writers Museum

AWM Story of the Week

Every week, the AWM is excited to bring you stories written by our visitors in our Story of the Day exhibit. Check back weekly for new stories, and visit the Museum to try out our typewriters and possibly be featured here!

As the new year gets started, it’s important to remember that nothing lasts forever, as this visitor pointed out in this poem:

nothing ever lasts forever

don’t worry too much about what is

but what will be

nothing ever lasts forever so

take it in

remember it

write down how it feels

store it away in a card catalog cabinet

and bring it out

when it’s time to scrapbook

with who you’ve become

the best part of anything

is the anticipation

nothing ever lasts forever

and that

that is a gift

This visitor also found some inspiration in certain endings:

Many of these keys are loose, much like the loose teeth of a child. The dinging of the typewriter is a satisfying sound. It signals the end of a row, the end of a period of time that cannot then be returned to.

From everyone here at the American Writers Museum, Happy New Year!

I absolutely love this poem. It really evokes feelings of joy and sadness at the same time! Wonderful work! Thank you for writing this.
