As 2018 draws to a close, we reflect back on the year. At the AWM, we’ve had a pretty awesome, fun-filled year with so many new author programs, great field trips, and amazing memories. Check out the videos below for a peek at 2018, and be sure to visit us in 2019 for even more author events, workshops, and parties!
Way back in January, we welcomed A.J. Finn and Gillian Flynn to the Museum to discuss Finn’s first novel, The Woman in the Window. In case you haven’t heard, both of these great authors have been pretty busy this year as Finn’s novel will soon be adapted to film, and several of Flynn’s stories have recently been adapted for film and television. Congratulations to them both!
Just before our big birthday bash in May, we had a great time with Pulitzer Prize winner Viet Thanh Nguyen and his fellow anthology contributors Vu Tran and Kao Kalia. In this video, he talks about empathy:
Tayari Jones, whose book An American Marriage was an Oprah’s Book Club pick, visited us in July. Here, she talks about getting that life-changing call from Oprah:
Jacqueline Woodson was the first event we hosted for free for students eligible for our Write In Program. These kids were able to meet a writer – for many, a first time experience – and share in a love of reading and expression with none other than the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature herself! Thank you so much Jacqueline!
