The American Writers Museum offers educational field trips with engaging learning opportunities for students in grades K-12, where young scholars learn about the cultural and historical significance of writing in America. Students also learn about writing styles, writing habits of authors, and new perspectives on writing—from the practical to the creative.

Know Before Booking:

  • 15 student minimum to qualify for reduced rates
  • 50 student maximum
  • One adult chaperone is required for every 8 students
  • A non-refundable 20% deposit is required on booking, and the full balance is due before or on arrival.
  • If a student has special requirements, please inform us in advance.
  • Please note: your reservation is not confirmed until an AWM team member confirms your date and your deposit is received.

During Your Trip:

  • Please keep in mind that no food or drinks are allowed in the museum. Bagged lunches must be kept stored at all times during the visit.

Elementary School Field Trips (Grades 3-4)

Materials for elementary students focus on the activity “My Personal Bookshelf.” With the goal of sharing and exploring a wide variety of authors and styles the Museum hopes to inspire a love of books in children from an early age.

Middle School Field Trips (Grades 5-7)

Materials for 5th through 7th graders focus on the American Voices exhibit. They aim to encourage students to explore various authors and their writings, and determine what purpose or motivation each author had to write.

High School Field Trips (Grades 8-12)

Materials for upper level students ask them to critically think about essential questions around American identity. Students will explore subjects with a focus on a subtheme of the American identity: race, religion, gender, or national origin.
