Looking Back on Our First Year

It’s been one year since we opened our doors and what a great year it has been. We welcomed people from all 50 states and 24 countries. We hosted 83 Chicagoland schools for field trips. We had more than 50 current writers spend time and share their stories with us. We were even voted Best Illinois Attraction! Now that the first chapter of our story is done, we look back on the whirlwind of a year it was and remember how great this year has been. Here are some of the highlights.

An exhibit at the AWM featuring words lit to look like the Statue of Liberty
We feature over 100,000 words in the Museum
An exhibit at the AWM showing a timeline in many colors, beginning in 1490
We feature over 400 years of American writing history
A collage showing stills from 4 temporary exhibits at the AWM
We’ve opened 4 temporary exhibits in our 2 changing galleries
A group of high-school students posing in the AWM for a photo
We welcomed 3,360 students
Poet Nikki Giovanni smiling at the front of a seated crowd
We hosted 70 public events with 57 authors

A crowd of people at a private event in the AWM's Reader's Hall
We hosted 30 private events
Children working at the base of Paul O. Zelinsky's mural of a tree
We highlight 32 children’s books in a hand painted mural

Thanks for a great year!
