Robert Gundlach is the founding director of the Writing Program in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.  He has directed the Writing Program since 1977.  He is also a professor in the Department of Linguistics at Northwestern, where he served as department chair from 2004 until 2007.  His essays include “Words and Lives: Language, Literacy, and Culture in Multilingual Chicago,” “The Future of Writing Ability,” and “Reflections on the Future of Writing Development.”
