The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival
Featured writers: James Kennedy
The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival is an annual video contest in which young readers create short movies that tell the entire stories of Newbery award-winning books. Creative takes are encouraged: think Charlotte’s Web as a horror movie, or The Tale of Desperaux as a musical! In this program, we’ll be showing the best, funniest, and most impressive movies we’ve received over the past 15 years.
For 15 years, the 90-Second Newbery has screened the best of these kid-made movies in New York, Chicago, Boston, San Antonio, and many other cities, hosted by film festival founder and author James Kennedy (The Order of Odd-Fish).
About the writers:
JAMES KENNEDY is the author of Bride of the Tornado, which the Chicago Tribune named one of the “Top 10 Books of 2023.” James’ other novels include Dare To Know, which was named by the Times Saturday Review as their “Best Sci-Fi Book of 2021,” and the young adult fantasy The Order of Odd-Fish. James is the founder of the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival, an annual video contest in which kid filmmakers create short movies that tell the entire stories of Newbery-winning books. He also hosts the Secrets of Story podcast with Matt Bird.
