small child typing on a green typewriter at the Story of the Day exhibit

AWM Story of the Week

Every week, the AWM is excited to bring you stories written by our visitors in our Story of the Day exhibit. Check back weekly for new stories, and visit the Museum to try out our typewriters and possibly be featured here!

We feel ya Linda, those days were something else. Using the typewriters now feels pretty nostalgic, and is a great exercise in patience.

Remember the days…
Keys jammed, typos, the errors.
Today: no wite-out.

We loved this visitor’s poem, and couldn’t wait to share it with the world. Thanks anonymous writer!

The Mind of the Flamingo

The legs tell all
It’s all about balance
And the craning of one’s neck
Folding it into one’s feathers
Losing one’s beak in the search
for something original
something dark and warm and said
only to oneself, under the breath
with the breath
of a swamp creature, to the quiet
cypress trees of the bayou.

Thank YOU for visiting! We’re so glad you enjoyed the Museum.

Thank you for this wonderful museum. One of my many favorite quotes is – “No need to hurry, no need to sparkle, no need to be anyone but oneself.”

May everyone who visits here enjoys it as much as I do.

Wishing you much success – TGR
