AWM Story of the Week

Every week, the AWM is excited to bring you stories written by our visitors in our Story of the Day exhibit. Check back weekly for new stories, and visit the Museum to try out our typewriters and possibly be featured here!

Thanks for the praise Casey, we’re so glad you liked your field trip…even if you did think that writing could be “boring” before you came.

Hello, my name is Casey. I am here on a field trip with my school. This is my first time on a typewriter. It is really cool. Writing is boring, but cool if you know how to write good and juicy paragraphs to form a juicy essay. My highschool consists of only one thousand people in it. We have trailers that we have class in and it is very annoying in the winter because we have to go outside in the freezing cold to get to class. Especially like a week ago when I was walking to get inside from the portables, and we had a tornado and had to take cover.

My school is quite interesting. We have many things to do, like sit at Mcdonalds for hours and sit in our cars. Mcdonalds parking lot is our only place to hang out most of the time, and it’s good food. Our seniors just graduated and I’m sad, but that means I’m a senior now so that’s cool. Anyway, thanks for your time. I highly recommend coming to this museum because it is very cool and you can learn a lot and be yourself.

We love when people have fond memories of typewriters. But, they never really went away – as the popularity of the Story of the Day exhibit shows! The typos also show that it’s a lot of work to get those memories on paper.

Hello, she said to no one in particular. This is so weird…

but the truth is that I like writing on a typewriter. I remember, oddly enough, taking time as a young kid playing around with my parent’s typewriter. I’m prety I’m pretty sure that I write wor wrote

I’m writing right now and making a ton of mistakes. What what what was it that I was trying to say? That I wrote a story about a mummy, I’m pretty sure…or at least that’s what I think. I illustrated it with badly drawn pictures of a mo mummy.

wow

I just wait wasted so much time writing away on this typewriter. This is a really nice typewriter. It reminds me of the one that my parents had when I was growing up in California.

We LOVED this typewriter poem. Speaking of black and red machines, have you seen Ollie? He’s a red Olympia that has gone missing from the Museum, and seems to have hit the road. Please let us know if you see him!
